Spring Term 2022

Maths

This first half of term, we will be focussing on decimals, multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 ad 100 and converting them to fractions. We will move on the converting fractions to percentages, and calculating percentages of amounts.  We will then learn about algebra, substituting numbers for letters and solving simple one step ad two step problems.  After half term, we will focus on measures (kilograms, litres, metres, time and money) before moving on to calculating perimeter, area and volume.  Calculating ratios will take us up to the Easter holidays.

 

English

All of our writing this term is based around our class book ‘Running Wild’, by Michael Morpurgo and our topic: Globalisation.  We will be writing persuasive letters,  balanced arguments, non-chronological reports, mystery stories, free form poetry and recounts.  Within all our writing, we will be working on a range of grammatical features including the use of colons and semi colons to join clauses, passive voice, the subjunctive form, parenthesis, relative clauses expanded noun phrases and the power of three.

 

Geography

Our topic for the term is ‘Globalisation’ We start by looking into what globalisation is, then trade, our carbon footprint, clothing, plastic pollution, the internet and deforestation. 

 

Science

In Science, we will be studying Evolution and Inheritance, learning how plants and animals have evolved and adapted over time.   After half term, our focus will shift to Animals and their habitats where our focus will be on Carl Linnaeus and the classification system. 

 

Art & DT

Our art this term is studying Kandinsky and our DT is cooking linked to fair Trade.

 

RE

In RE, we will be exploring why some people believe in God and others don’t during the first half term then, we will be exploring the events that lead up to and the importance of Holy Week.

 

Computing

In computing, we will again focus on online safety and keeping ourselves safe online.

 

Languages

We will be following the ilanguages programme of study, revising numbers, days of the week, months of the year and learning about a typical day at school in France.  We will then explore transport before learning about Easter in France.

 

 Class Admin 

Home learning: This will be set at the following times:

Maths – Monday to be handed in on Friday.

English – Wednesday to be handed in on the following Tuesday.

Reading – 20 minutes reading daily. We ask that an adult signs the reading diary and it is handed in at least once per week.

Spellings:  There will be weekly spelling tests.

Games and PE:

Children will need their PE kit in school all week however, games is on Wednesday and PE on Friday. We will be focusing on gymnastics on a Monday and invasion games on a Friday.

Kit:         Trainers, white shirt, blue shorts, football socks.

In colder weather, a plain tracksuit should be worn outdoors for games.

Please ensure that all items of clothing are named. A small named bag containing your PE kit is all that is necessary, as cloakroom space is limited.
