Lovelace Class -Year 6
Year 6 @ Mount Street Primary School
Autumn Term in Year 6
This Year, our Year 6 class will be named after the inspirational person Ada Lovelace . She was a 19th-century mathematician who is famous for writing the first computer program for Charles Babbage's mechanical computer, the Analytical Engine. Born in 1815, she was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron and was encouraged to study science and math by her mother. She recognized that machines like the Analytical Engine could do more than just calculations and predicted their future uses, such as creating graphics and music. Ada's ideas and understanding are basis for computer programming today. We want our Year 6 children to be inspired by her jAda Lovelace and, just like her, look for possibilities and develop their own skills and ideas this year.
Our class teachers
Our Class teacher is Ms Price and Miss Crowther will teach the class on Tuesdays during Ms Price's PPA. Ms Price leads science and music across the school. Year 6 are also supported by Mrs Blatchford who is our class Teaching Assistant. At times we are supported by Miss Pooley as well.
If you haven't already done so, please sign up for our Class Dojo. Here you will find messages from your class teacher that will help you keep up to date with what is happening in class and any forthcoming events. You can also send a message to your child's class teacher via Dojo and they will get back to you as soon as possible.

We explain what the long multiplication method is and review how multiplication skills are built up through each year of primary school.
The long division method is used when you are dividing a large number (usually three digits or more) by a two-digit (or more) number.
Use knowledge of the order of operations to carry out calculations involving the four operations and explore the order of operations using brackets.
Expanded Addition Using Place Value Counters
A step towards a more formal written method of columnar addition using place value counters.
Column Subtraction Using Place Value Counters - Tablet Version
A good starting place for teaching column subtraction. Helps children to visualise the processes involved.
