Mission Mammoth
Tue 02 Jul 2024As part of the Mission Mammoth STEAMFEST 2024 and #Smeaton300, Year 5 had an amazing day at The Box working with various companies thinking about how to design a mammoth enclosure for George and Mildred (the woolly mammoths). The children worked with engineers, architects, surveyors, quantity surveyors and many others from the construction industry, learning how to design a sustainable structure that can house the mammoths in comfort. The children were impeccably behaved throughout the day, asking deepening questions to find out more about the roles. A big shout out to Edna, who won the overall prize (nominated by many of the professionals) of a very cuddly woolly mammoth.

Year 5 - Dartmoor Rainforest Visit
Thu 20 Jun 2024What an amazing day Year 5 had at Dartmoor Rainforest. The children learnt so much about the area and participated in fun games throughout the day including: find your tree (taken to a tree blindfolded first then find the right one afterwards); becoming birds to protect their nests and being quiet to hear the different sounds (this was extremely hard for some of us ~ me included!). Well done Year 5 as you were amazing and did us proud!

Young Readers Programme.
Thu 20 Jun 2024years 1,2 and 3 have been participating in the Young Reader's Programme this year. As well as Bedtime stories, The Lord Mayor's visit and World Book day where the children were all involved in reading, they were invited to take part in a book event in Drake Circus. The children were all so excited - they played Nerf gun target practice, mini golf, had a treasure hunt, created a front cover for an imaginary book and write a short blurb to entice a reader. Finally they spent time with one of the funniest story tellers and got to choose their very own second book. They are still buzzing and carrying their books around with them. They are now talking of sharing the books with each other and lending them!
