Camp Kernow 2022
Thu 02 Jun 2022Children in years 3 and 4 have been enjoying life living off grid during their residential at Camp Kernow. For many, staying away from home was a first time experience and all had an amazing time, staying in bell tents, yurts and even an upside down boat with their friends.
The children enjoyed trying out a range of new experiences, including archery, climbing, lighting fires and natural dyeing. They also experienced harvesting their own salad and helping to prepare meals in the camp kitchen.
As Camp Kernow promotes a sustainable way of living, the children were taught about recycling, minimising food waste and the importance of not wasting energy. They also learnt about how some of the energy we uses increases the carbon in the atmosphere which in turn has a negative impact on our Earth. As well as learning about how the Camp produces it’s own solar energy, they also worked in groups to make their own wind turbines.
A great time was had by all, and we would like to thank the staff at Camp Kernow, who made this an amazing and educational experience.

Art Award Explore
Sun 22 May 2022Year 5 have enjoyed working towards the completion of the Art Award Explore (Entry Level Award in the Arts). First, they visited an Art Exhibition at the Box called Breaking the Mould ( the first survey of post-war British sculpture by women.) where they looked at and discussed a range of sculptures before creating their own collages inspired by the lines and textures they had observed.
Later, they explored the Box, and while they certainly enjoyed experiencing the collections, the focus was on the Box’s role as an organisation. Back at school, Carly Seller (an artist) spoke to the children about her work and then they were given the opportunity to interview her.
Finally, Carly shared carving techniques with the class and they all made their own soap sculptures inspired by the artwork they had seen earlier in the week.
A great time was had by all and we would like to say a huge Thank You to the team at the Box, who made this opportunity possible.

The children had the chance to set sail on a traditional boat, learning about life at sea and have the opportunity to crew the boat - raising the sails, reading charts, tying knots and manning the tiller.
Working as a team, they set sail out towards the breakwater, learnt about historical places and enjoy the views from the sea.
A huge thanks to all for making today an experience they will never forget.
