  • Heatree 21 - Day 4

Fri 22 Oct 2021 Mrs Hibbert

we woke to a bright, sunny morning on our last full day of activities !

After a hearty breakfast, it was off to rock scrambling on Hound Tor for red and blue teams, which had them climbing through crevices and up and over the large granite stones, whilst orange and green tried their hands at archery. Back to the house for lunch and we had chance to play outside for the first time.

In the afternoon, red and blue attacked the low adventure course getting wet and muddy whilst the orange and green teams went rock scrambling.  A quick visit to the gift shop then it was roast turkey, 'pigs in blankets', roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower cheese followed by ice cream and honeycomb.

After packing our suitcases, we went down to the ancient round house and sat around the campfire singing songs, telling stories and toasting marshmallows before returning to the house for hot chocolate, marshmallows and homemade caramel shortbread.

It was then teeth clean and off to bed with lights out at 9.30.... some may have stayed up talking for a little bit longer..

It's a busy morning this morning, stripping our rooms, packing the last few bits and pieces and getting our cases downstairs before breakfast and our final activity. We are orienteering where we will be exploring the grounds of Heatree before having our lunch, packing the coach and the plan is to depart Heatree by 12.45 at the latest. School will let you know our arrival time back in Plymouth but it should be 1.45-2.00.

We have a group of happy, tired children who have been impeccably behaved and who have been a pleasure to take away on residential.  Happy washing!

  • Heatree 2021 - Day 3

Wed 20 Oct 2021 Mrs Hibbert

And that's Wednesday over.  The children were woken at 7.30 this morning and there were a lot still asleep.  Breakfast was a quieter affair but all the children ate well.

Two groups were raft building whilst the other two were tackling the high ropes.  The weather wasn't too bad this morning which made things a little easier.

After lunch, two groups were raft building whilst the other two were tackling the climbing tower and high ropes.

Dinner this evening was sausage and chips followed by sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce.

This evening, the rain was quite heavy when half the children went out on their night walk - the rest had a duvet/movie night.  I have to say the children were quite tired but they have all been absolutely amazing.

  • Heatree Day 2

Wed 20 Oct 2021 Mrs Hibbert

Well, that's another day done.  Wet, soggy, misty and mild but we had a ball.  Up at 7.30 with breakfast (cereals, toast and yoghurt) at 8.00 - who'd have thought they'd rush to do the washing up.

Then it was off to either high ropes (adventure up in the tree tops) or climbing and abseiling.  All of the children challenged themselves and, when they through they'd gone as far as they could, they took one step more - awesome.  Back to the house for freshly made filled rolls, crisps and fruit for lunch followed by either low adventure (through the mud and streams) or archery (Robin Hood has some serious competition.)

Back to the rooms for showers and a  tidy up before dinner - chicken pie, mash, peas and sweetcorn followed by cholate brownie and chocolate sauce.  The low ropes teams then had a duvet and movie night whilst the archery teams ventured out on a night walk through the woods which gave us a chance to test our torches!!

It was freshly baked biscuits for supper then off to bed at 9pm with lights out at 9.15.  The Mount Street and Prince Rock children have really done themselves proud today as both their manners and behaviour was exemplary.

Hopefully a little less rain tomorrow....

  • Heatree 2021 - Day 1

Mon 18 Oct 2021 Mrs Hibbert

After a somewhat wet walk to the coach, we travelled to Heatree, in the pouring rain, arriving at 12 O'clock.  After lunch and a familiarisation, we travelled to Tamakelie Island to rescue the Tamakelie bird's eggs which had been stolen by pirates. We were team building and getting to know each other.

We returned to the accommodation at 4pm and found out where we were sleeping and who our roomies were.  We then had time to get unpacked and to carry out some serious duvet wrestling before a fire drill and then dinner.  Home cooked lasagne, garlic bread and salad was followed by homemade apple crumble and custard!  We went back to our rooms to make sure that they were ready for inspection before going down to our Rec Room and taking part in an inter-room general knowledge quiz.

Homemade cherry shortbread was supper before we went and got settled for the night.  Lights out at 9.00 and lots of whispering until 10.....  Day 1 complete
