  • Odd Socks and Children In Need

    Sun 20 Nov 2022

During Anti bullying week, we have been thinking about how we treat others

and celebrate the uniqueness of each individual. As part of this focus, we held an

odd socks day. We have also celebrated Children in Need by dressing in MUFTI and/ or spotty clothes, raising £128.95 towards supporting activities that help improve children’s lives around the UK. Thank you for your generosity.

  • Interfaith Week

Sat 19 Nov 2022 Mrs Hibbert

Year 6 were fortunate enough to take part in Interfaith Week this week.  We visited the Guildhall where we learned more about both the Islamic faith and Humanism from guest speakers.  After a refreshment break, we walked to Plymouth's Synagogue - the oldest Ashkenazi Synagogue still in regular use in the English-speaking world. Judaism is our RE topic this term and is linked also to our WWII history topic. Jerry Sibley gave us an in-depth explanation of the roles of the key members of the Synagogue as well as explaining about the Torah, the Ark, the Bimah and the menorah.  The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit as it helped to reinforce their learning.

  • Lipson Physics Masterclass

    Thu 17 Nov 2022

Some of our year 5s had a taste of the KS3 curriculum this week, while taking part in a Physics Masterclass at Lipson Co-operative Academy. They learnt about terminal velocity taught by Lipson scientist Mr Chick, who was supported by year 10 students. Their learning was put to the test at the end of the Masterclass when they made parachutes for various objects. The children had a wonderful time and were commended by Lispon staff for their ‘love of learning and academic curiosity’.

  • Year 6 Service of Remembrance

Fri 11 Nov 2022 Mrs Hibbert

Linked to our World War II history topic, Year 6 have been writing war poems and making clay poppies.  To mark the special occasion of Armistice Day, they led a service of Remembrance in our garden where they recited some of the poem they had written, explained the significance of the minute's silence and then performed 'In Flander's Field.' by John McCrae.  The whole school watched, together with the Year 6 parents; we were all very impressed by their behaviour and performance.  After the service, the children 'planted' their poppies temporarily at the front of the school.

  • Children's University Literacy Workshop with David Lawrence Jones

Fri 11 Nov 2022 Mrs Hibbert

On Thursday, Year 6 children were lucky enough to take part in a literacy workshop with author, David Lawrence Jones.  He has written a book, "Cub's Adventure, A journey to learning! " where Cub, a bear who wants to learn, sets off around Devon and Cornwall to places where he can visit and learn.  Year 6 were invited to add their own learning destinations and illustrations to make our own version of the book.  With children acting as the editor, proofreader, researchers, writers and illustrators, they worked really well together to produce all the elements need in the time allocated.  All agreed, it was a great day, and they will be promoting the benefits of joining Children's University
