  • British Art Show 9

    Fri 28 Oct 2022

During Activity Week 2022, Year 5 and 6 visited The Box to explore the latest art exhibition -British Art Show 9. This is a landmark touring exhibition that celebrates the vitality of recent art made in Britain.  The show explores three overarching themes – healing, care and reparative history; tactics for togetherness; and imagining new futures.

During the visit, we looked at and questioned the art.  We thought about what we liked, disliked, what was strange and what was funny.  Adam (from The Box)  explained that this was new art, art that that was still being critiqued by the art community. We all had different opinions and each of us had a favourite piece.

When we returned to school, we created our own art, drawing on inspiration from the artists and their works and linking our ideas to our Environmental Study on Ocean Plastic Pollution.

  • Thursday - Our final full day

Fri 21 Oct 2022 Mrs Hibbert

We wke to a much better day - just the odd shower.  After breakfast, three groups went out for the wild adventure and rock scrambling around Hound Torr.  They were amazed at just how small a hole they could actually fit through! A picnic with a view was just the ticket for lunch before more exploring and a return walk to Heatree.  The remaining two groups challenged themselves on the high ropes in the morning and were then in group challenges on the low adventure course in the afternoon.

It was roast turkey and ice cream for dinner.  Afterwards, it was back to rooms to pack and reunite lonely socks with their owners before the final evening room inspection.  Once complete, we all went to the round house for a camp fire, songs, jokes and toasted marshmallows before returning to our rooms for the final night's sleep.

  • Wednesday - Middle of the week

Thu 20 Oct 2022 Mrs Hibbert

Another eventful day in thick fog and mizzle!  It was a slower start this morning but everyone enjoyed a much better night's sleep.  After another mamoth breakfast session and morning assembly, two groups went out on a wild adventure day where we left the grounds of Heatree and walked out on to a wild and windy Dartmoor.  We went poo trecking to work out what animals were there and we explored the vegetation that could be found growing wild.  After a break stop, we walked to Hound Torr where we went rock scrambling - finding our way through small nooks and crannies in the granite rock structures.  We had lunch on the torr and then gradually walked back to Heatree.

The other groups were either exploring the low adventure activity (in teh mud andt water tunnels) or abseiling and climbing.  All the children again challenged themselves to go as far as they could - we are incerdibly proud of them.  In the afternoon, there was raft building for some and archery for others - again some serious contenders for Robing Hood.

After a dinner of sausage and chips, followed by chocolate cake and chocolate sauce (the favourite meal so far this week), three groups enjoyed movie night and snacks whilst the other two groups went on a night walk and stopped for a snack in the woods.

Back at the house, it was hot chocolate before bed and lights went out at 10.15.

  • Residential - first full day

Wed 19 Oct 2022 Mrs Hibbert

What a busy day!  After breakfast,  two groups went climbing and abseiling where we were all challenged to do as much as we could.  Two groups went raft building where all the building was successful yet some chose to jump in the pond afterwards - it was cold!  The final group tried out the low adventure where mud and scrambling were the order of the day.

After showers (for those that needed them) and lunch, the climbing groups went raft building where again there was amazing team work and cooperation evident and some chose to jump in the water.  The raft builders went climbing and some children amazed themselves at overcoming their fears.  The low adventure group showed their Robin Hood credentials on the archery field.

A lovely evening meal of chicken pie followed by syrup sponge and custard was enjoyed by everyone before three groups went out on a night walk and two groups stayed in for movie night.

A late night snack and hot chocolate saw them all ready for bed.  At 10.15pm lights out, some were already fast asleep.  Everyone had a good night's sleep.

  • Residential - Tuesday morning

Tue 18 Oct 2022 Mrs Hibbert

MountRockers enjoyed a good night's sleep and were up with the larks (or earlier) this morning.  The weather not quite as good as yesterday but that didn't stop very healthy appetite's this morning.  Off to do climbing or raft building or low adventure ropes.

  • MountRock Residential 22

Mon 17 Oct 2022 Mrs Hibbert

Our MountRock Residential 22 has begun!  We left Plymouth on a beautiful, sunny Monday morning and arrived safely at Heatree at lunchtime.  After unloading the coach and receiving a safety briefing, we enjoyed our lunch in the sun before we spent the afternoon orienteering around the grounds, exploring every inch to find as many of the hidden clues as possible.

After room allocation, a fire alarm drill and time to unpack, we enjoyed a home-cooked meal of tomato pasta bake followed by apple crumble and custard.  We returned to our rooms to shower and change before settling down in the main lounge for a quiz evening.  It was back to our rooms then to get into bed and read quietly before lights out at 9.30pm
