LAT response to school closure
Thu 19 Mar 2020Here is our CEO's update on the Government's decision to close schools. It reads:
Thursday 19th March 2020
Dear Parents / Carers,
Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils
Following on from my recent updates, I’m now writing to let you know that we have now been instructed by the government to close your child’s school to almost all children after this Friday 20th March until further notice. As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with certain needs.
We are still waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means, but it would help us in the meantime if you could let us know if you think your child may fall into one of these categories.
All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday 23rd March onwards. Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will continue to keep you informed through email, social media and our websites.
Your child’s learning is of course important to us, so we’ll continue to help your child to learn. Each LAT school is making provision for home learning and details of this will come directly from each school.
If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this.
Self-isolation and illness mean that our schools workforce is significantly depleted and we monitor this on a daily basis. The actions that are being taken, both locally and by the government, are being done with the clear intent of preventing the spread of the virus. As such it is imperative that to keep our children and staff safe our schools receive a thorough clean each day.
This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience with as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.
If you or your child feels ill and you want to know what to do next, please use NHS 111 online.
Thank you again for your continued support and understanding at this difficult time.
Yours sincerely,
Simon Spry
Chief Executive Officer
Learning Academies Trust -
COVID-19 and the Learning Academies Trust
Wed 18 Mar 2020The Learning Academies Trust would like to reassure you that our schools are still open at present in line with current government advice. This is however becoming more challenging as some of our staff are needing to self-isolate due to unwell family members or based on Public Health England recommendations. We have no confirmed cases within the schools in our Trust.
You may notice that your child has a different class teacher or we are putting classes together. We are doing everything we can to stay open to support you and your children during this uncertain time.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your cooperation during these unprecedented times and if you do have any concerns, please contact the school.

Heatree - Day 4
Fri 15 Nov 2019We woke this morning to a chilly start and pouring rain. Undeterred, following breakfast, we layered up our clothing and set off for the morning activities of low adventure, raft building and rock scrambling. No sooner had we commenced the activity, than the snow started. We were all very excited, although it was very cold. We carried on regardless although some activities finished a little early as hands were numb. There were a few very brave souls who finished every activity.
After lunch, due to the adverse weather conditions, there was a slight change in activities as it made the high ropes dangerous, so three groups had an orienteering afternoon whilst the remaining teams completed the low adventure course.
After a trip to the gift shop, the packing started. Dinner this evening was roast chicken, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, broccoli, carrots and cauliflower cheese. This was followed by ice cream and sprinkles. Many people had to have seconds it was so good!
As it was our last night, we headed down to the Bronze Age Round House and sand around a fire and toasted marshmallows. After returning to the house, we had a final set of evening rounds before settling down for the evening - there was no noise after 10.00 pm this evening!!

Heatree 2019 - Day 3
Wed 13 Nov 2019It was a 7.30 start this morning, with breakfast at 8.00. Rock scrambling, low adventure and raft building were the morning activities on what was a fresh, clear and dry morning. The views from the top of Hound Tor were amazing but it was very cold in the pond and in the streams. For those who got wet, it was up for a hot shower and change of clothes before lunch. We has started to eat our lunch outside but sadly the sleety showers started. This afternoon saw groups taking part in high ropes, low adventure and raft building. Even though it was raining, and it was quite heavy at times, the children persevered and achieved what they wanted to achieve.
Following a dinner of sausage, chips and baked beans, which was followed by syrup sponge and custard, half the children again went out on a night walk. The moon was full and, luckily, there were just a couple of sleet showers. Once everyone was back, it was hot chocolate and a fairy cake before going off to bed and lights out at 10pm.

Heatree 2019 - Day 2
Wed 13 Nov 2019After an uneventful night for our children, those who were not already awake were woken at 0730 for an 0800 breakfast of yoghurt, toast and cereals. Green group were the washer-uppers whilst the rest prepared for the mornings activities which were: High ropes, archery and fencing or abseiling and climbing. Whilst everyone enjoyed the fencing and archery, the high ropes and abseiling proved a challenge however, they all faced their fears and, when they didn't think they could go any further, they took one more step - we couldn't be more proud of them.
Lunch of freshly made filled rolls, with homemade soup followed and the children enjoyed playing outside.
The afternoons activities were: archery and fencing, rock scrambling and abseiling and climbing. Again, the children acquitted themselves brilliantly and were all proud of what they had achieved.
After some reflection time, it was chicken pie, mash, sweetcorn and peas for tea, followed by the most amazing (but calorie free) chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce. After evening rounds, half the children went out on a night walk, whilst the rest stayed behind for a games evening. The night walk, whilst cold, remained mostly dry and was made even better by the full moon!
On return to Heatree, it was hot chocolate and flapjack followed by bed and lights out at 10 – day 2 complete!

Heatree 2019 - Day 1
Mon 11 Nov 2019We arrived safely this morning at 11.45, having travelled through a full season of weather and an assortment of rainbows! We had our lunch and then broke out into our teams and either went orienteering around the site or took part in small problem solving activities on Tamakali Island! This gave us the opportunity to meet our Prince Rock team mates and work together collaboratively.
We then came back to the house and were allocated our bedrooms and given time to unpack - surprisingly this meant taking our clothes out of our suitcases and putting it into drawers!
Dinner was cannelloni, garlic bread and salad, followed by apple crumble and custard - all the children ate really well and were praised for their beautiful manners. Red group had the pleasure of washing up and setting the tables whilst the rest of the children went back to their rooms to get ready for evening rounds.
After rounds, it was down to the activity room for a quiz which was won by Green group.
Following hot chocolate and home made shortbread, it was off to shower get ready for bed, clean teeth and settle down before lights out at 10pm. Day 1 complete!
